ADB can issue loan to Uzbekistan to modernize electricity metering system

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) can allocate loan for US$104 million to modernization of the electricity metering system in five regions of Uzbekistan.
According to the ADB website, the loan will used to modernize the system of electricity metering in Andijan, Namangan, Ferghana, Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya regions.
The project will install an advanced electricity metering (AEM) system that uses modern, accurate, and theft-proof revenue meters for the power grid system and the end user customers in Andijan, Ferghana, Namangan, Kashkadarya, and Surkhandarya regions.
The project will include installation of 2.6 million meters and meter data management (MDM) system that includes billing and energy data management systems, and capacity development for operational improvement for reducing commercial losses.
The project will help improve energy efficiency in the power distribution sector, by reducing commercial losses and improving the efficiency of electricity revenue collection.
The project will be implemented within three years. The project cost is US$217.95 million. The ADB plans to issue US$64 million from its ordinary resources and US$40 million from the Asian Development Fund. Uzbekistan will issue US$113.95 million to the project. The ADB will consider allocation of loan in March 2014.
The ADB issued US$150 million to modernization of electricity metering system in Bukhara, Jizzakh and Samarkand regions.
The project cost is US$207.4 million and it envisages installation of 1 million electricity meters by 2015. Currently, tender for selection of equipment supplier is underway.
