Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Russia is focusing on developing comprehensive cooperation with Uzbekistan based on principles of strategic partnership and ally relations, chairperson of the Federation Council of Russia Valentina Matvienko said at the meeting with the Speaker of Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Dilorom Tashmuhamedova.
Speaker of the upper house of the Russian parliament noted that there are great potential of inter-regional interaction. She said that the parliaments of Uzbekistan and Russia should actively work in developing cooperation in economic, cultural-humanitarian and scientific-technical spheres. She said that this is perspective direction.
She said that Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS is working on draft Convention on inter-regional cooperation of the CIS states. Matvienko, who heads the Council of the Assembly, said that the Assembly as parliamentary body of the CIS is important tool of legal support of the decisions of the Council of the heads of the governments and the Council of the states of the CIS. She said that the Assembly is effective platform to exchange experience.
Valentina Matvienko invited the speaker of the Legislative Chamber to participate in the session of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS, which will be held in Saint Petersburg on 28-29 November 2013.
Russian top legislator affirmed the readiness of Russia to expend contacts in culture, science and technical, educational, healthcare, sport and tourism. She expressed gratitude to Uzbekistan to attention in developing relations in education sector. She highly rated works of the Russian universities in Uzbekistan.
The sides called for boosting bilateral inter-parliamentary cooperation in law-making process, including at the level of committees and friendship groups.
Dilorom Tashmuhamedova supported importance of expanding inter-parliamentary dialogue between Russia and Uzbekistan and expressed hope that the meeting will give stimulus to development of cooperation between legislative bodies of two states.
