Uzbekenergo to invest US$166m to modernize substations by 2018

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekenergo will direct US$166 million to modernization of substation of the energy system of Uzbekistan in 2014-2017, the source in the company told RIA Novosti.
The project was included to investment programme of the company for 2014 and next years. Currently, the company is completing inventory of the objects and determined the cost on modernization.
He said that it is planned to update 80% of old equipment sub-stations. The company will finance the project due to own resources of Uzbekenergo and loan of the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan, as well as the Uzbek banks.
The source said that the company has 1,,673 units of sub-station with the capacity of 35 kV and with total capacity of over 40 million kilovolt-ampere and 67,600 transformer points of 6-10 kV with the capacity of 22.5 million kilovolt-ampere.
Currently, the energy system of Uzbekistan has 45 power stations with the capacity of 12,400 megawatt, of which 16 power stations belong to Uzbekenergo – 12,040 megawatt.
The potential of electricity production makes up 56-57 billion KWH. Production of electricity in Uzbekistan rose by 3.1% year-on-year to 40.356 billion KWH in nine months of 2013.
