Mitsubishi and Uzbekenergo plan to launch service venture

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation and the state joint stock company Uzbekenergo is planning to create a joint venture on exploitation and technical maintenance of thermal power station in Uzbekistan, RIA Novosti reported quoting source, who aware with the situation.
The source said that creation of the joint venture was included to the list of the projects, which will be discussed with the Japanese company in 2014. The issue will be discussed till the summer.
He said that Mitsubishi is a supplier of combined-cycle units within the modernization of two thermal power stations in Uzbekistan – Navoi and Talimardjan.
In 2012, the consortium of Turkey’s Calik Enerji Sanayi ve Ticaret AS and Spain’s Initec modernized Navoi thermal power station with the cost of US$530 million. Mitsubishi delivered two combined-cycle units with the capacity of 477 megawatts on turn-key bases.
Currently, Uzbekenergo is studying a project on construction of the second combined-cycle unit with the capacity of 450 megawatts. The Japanese company can supply equipment.
In March 2013, South Korea’s Daewoo and Hyundai signed a contract with Uzbekenergo on modernization of Talimarjan thermal power station with the cost of US$861 million.
Within the term of the contract, the consortium will construct two combined-cycle units with the capacity of 450 megawatt each. Mitsubishi will supply combined-cycle units within the project.
