GM Uzbekistan starts production of Damas mini-van in Khorezm region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- GM Uzbekistan, an Uzbek-US joint venture, started production of automobiles Damas in Khorezm region of Uzbekistan.
The enterprise earlier produced Damas mini-vans in Asaka, Andian region. The transfer of capacities is connected with expansion of production of cars at GM Uzbekistan. The capacity of Asaka-based plant was 30,000 mini-vans a year.
New line is placed at Khorezm Automobile Production Union LLC. Its designed capacity is 40,000 mini-vans a year. The volume of investment to transfer of capacities is US$55.5 million.
On 10 March, GM Uzbekistan announced that it will produce Chevrolet Orlando in Khorezm region. The preliminary capacity is 10,000 units a year.
The project is implemented in two stages. Within the first stage, the assembly lines of Damas production were created at Khorezm Automobile Production Union LLC.
Within the second stage, it is planned to transfer enterprise to full circle of Damas car production. The second stage will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2014.
Asaka-based GM Uzbekistan started to produce Damas microbuses in March 1996. In 2006, the plant launched production of modernized version of Damas.
