EU appoints its Special Envoy to Central Asia

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Janos Herman has been appointed as Special Envoy of the European Union to Central Asia.
Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the Commission, had adopted a corresponding decision on 9 April 2014.
“To ensure the continued engagement with the countries of Central Asia I have decided to appoint Janos Herman as Special Envoy to the region. Janos is an experienced diplomat and I am looking forward to working with him in his new role,” said Catherine Ashton.
Janos Herman is a former Head of EU Delegation to Norway as well as former Hungarian State Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Ambassador to NATO. Initially, the Special Envoy is appointed for a six-month period, starting from April 2014.
At this post, Herman will replace Patricia Flor, who recently resigned.
