Child mortality falls by 3.2 times in Uzbekistan – Health Ministry

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Child mortality in Uzbekistan decreased by 3.2 times during independence years, according to the data of Ministry of Healthcare of Uzbekistan.
According to the Ministry of Healthcare, during independence years of Uzbekistan, the maternal mortality fell by 3.1 times.
The ministry said that birth of children with congenital anomalies decreased by 1.8 times compared to 2000 thanks to implementation of the programme “Mother and child screening”.
Currently, 92% of children in Uzbekistan on parameters of their development meet standards of the World Health Organization.
The ministry said that number of absolutely healthy children made up 52.7% in 2005 and the figure reached 63% in 2013. The figure makes up 70-72% in developed countries, which shows achievements of Uzbekistan in this area.
Uzbekistan regularly holds week of health. In 2014, it is planned to carry out medical examination of 145,000 citizens of remote areas, the ministry added.
