Uzbekistan’s GDP grows by 7.5% in 1Q 2014

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Gross domestic product (GDP) of Uzbekistan grew by 7.5% in January-March 2014, a session of the Cabinet of Ministers dedicated to social-economic development of the country said on 18 April 2014.
Uzbekistan’s industrial output rose by 8.9% in the reporting period, while agriculture production increased by 6.2%, as well as service – 11.8%.
State budget was executed with 0.2% surplus to the GDP. The inflation level did not exceed the set forecasted volume.
In the first quarter of 2014, Uzbekistan increased production of consumer goods by 12.8%. The retail trade rose by 14.3% and paid services – 9.1% in the reporting period.
Share of consumer goods in total industrial production of Uzbekistan increased from 29.5% in the first quarter of 2013 to 34.4% in the same period of 2014.
Foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan rose by 8% in January-March 2014. Exports of Uzbekistan jumped by 8.4% and imports – 7.5%.
Within the State programme “The Year of Healthy Children, about 1 trillion soums were used due to all resources in the first quarter of 2014.
It was noted that about 7,300 new small businesses were created in January-March 2014.
In the result of the adopted measures, the volume of used capital investments rose by 12.4% Share of investments and loans in the structure of capital investments rose up to 23.3%.
Uzbekistan commissioned 510 new objects ad completed implementation of 37 large investment projects in the first quarter of 2014. The growth of investment activity helped to increase construction works by 15.5%.
In the first quarter, Uzbekistan used 63.5 billion soums to construction and reconstruction of automobile roads, which are part of the Uzbek national highway. About 150 km of optic-fibre lines for broadband communication were laid.
Within the programme on creation of new jobs and increasing employment of population for 2014, Uzbekistan created 227,900 new jobs in the first three months of 2014, of which 60.3% or 137,000 were created in rural areas.
