Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- UNICEF in Uzbekistan launched its website in the Uzbek, Russian and English today, marking a partnership of 20 years with the people and Government of Uzbekistan.
This 20th anniversary year of UNICEF’s presence in Uzbekistan coincides with the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) by the UN General Assembly.
The CRC is ratified by 192 countries, making it the world’s most accepted international treaty. It holds Governments and other duty-bearers to children accountable for the fulfilment of their rights, with a particular focus on the most disadvantaged.
The new www.unicef.uz website and its Russian version complement the earlier English website which has also been given a new look and feel. The strength of our website trio is that it puts the needs of the user as its top priority. The architecture and features of the website, including its digital interface design are both attractive and easy to navigate.
It has been UNICEF’s effort to optimise the layout, to make it user-friendly not only for institutions and internet savvy users, but also for the elderly, children, and basic computer users such as people from rural backgrounds who have had minimum exposure to internet technology. Its goal is not to be just a simple outlet for information, but a whole portal that can offer useful services and interesting products for a range of potential visitors: children, adolescents, parents, professionals and decision-makers.
Its resources include an overview of the situation of children in Uzbekistan and the programmes that UNICEF supports for the realization of their rights and wellbeing. The website also features a comprehensive publications library, news and multimedia services, and a list of key partners. Families have an opportunity to explore good parenting practices while a section for Children and Adolescents encourages them to understand their rights and responsibilities. It also motivates them to participate in civic activities of their own communities.
“Empowering children and their families to realize their rights is a key part of UNICEF’s mission globally and in Uzbekistan,” said Robert Fuderich, UNICEF Representative in Uzbekistan. “By providing vital tools, resources and information, our new website will contribute towards achieving this outcome,” he added.
