Uzbek President receives US Deputy Secretary of State

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received the United States Deputy Secretary of State William Burns at the Oqsaroy on 7 May 2014.
William Burns arrived in Uzbekistan on 6 May 2014 with a two-day working visit.
Uzbek leader welcomed Williams Burns in Tashkent and expressed his respect to leadership and people of the United States. President underlined that Uzbekistan and the US can solve existing issues, when there are understanding between two nations.
Islam Karimov also expressed gratitude to the USA for signing of the protocol to the Treaty on a Nuclear-Weapons-Free Zone in Central Asia. The document was signed in New York on 6 May.
During the meeting, the parties underlined they appreciate the progressive dynamics in the bilateral interaction in political, economic, humanitarian and other spheres the two sides share interest. The established systemic dialogue across diverse areas, including regular contacts at the level of legislatures and foreign affairs agencies of our two nations, has allowed the two sides to build relations of fruitful and constructive cooperation. The sides discussed current state and prospects in the enhancement of trade-economic and investment interaction.
During the negotiations, Islam Karimov and William Burns considered regional and international affairs and exchanged views on the developments in Afghanistan in the context of regional security and stability.
William Burns expressed gratitude to the Uzbek President for a warm reception and delivered frank words of the US President Barack Obama and US State Secretary John Kerry. He confirmed the willingness of the country he represents to keep advancing its relations with Uzbekistan across a variety of spheres.
During the meeting, they also discussed trade-economic relations between Uzbekistan and the United States. Currently, 190 enterprises with participation of the US companies, including 53 with 100% US capital, operate in Uzbekistan. About 40 US firms have their offices in Uzbekistan.
