GEO-NET starts work to study wind power potential of Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan ( -- GEO-NET Umweltconsulting GmbH (Germany) developed a preliminary wind atlas of Uzbekistan, which was presented this week in Tashkent.

The wind atlas of Uzbekistan was developed within the study of wind power potential of Uzbekistan. Intec-GOPA and GEO-NET Umweltconsulting GmbH are conducting this study within the project “Construction of high voltage line 500 kV Talimarjan thermal power station – Sogdiana sub-station with 500 kV switcher station at Talimarjan thermal power station”, which is financed by the World Bank.

Representatives of GEO-NET presented preliminary wind atlas of Uzbekistan at the seminar on development of wind power potential of Uzbekistan. GEO-NET developed atlas with use of 3D modeling and shows perspectives regions for development of park of wind energy facilities.

According to the German company, the atlas is at the preliminary stage and the company should received additional data to prepare its final version. In line with the preliminary atlas, Uzbekistan can develop the fleet of wind power generation facilities in Karkalpakstan and Navoi region.

GEO-NET managers said that the company will provide this data to Uzbekenergo and the sides will select two pilot zones, where wind measurement. GEO-NET will conduct this research within a year (till summer of 2015).

Consulting companies Intec-GOPA and GEONET in cooperation with Uzbekenergo will develop information-analytical system of wind power potential of Uzbekistan, including wind atlas, within the project.

The companies will also determined demonstration fields and conduct detailed metrological research to determine wind power potential of the country. Afterwards, the companies will develop preliminary feasibility study of the project on creation of the park of wind power facilities.
