WIUT hosts Forum of Young Economists

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) jointly with the Institute for forecasting and macroeconomic research (IFMR) under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, with the support of the United Nations Development Program’s Project “Capacity Building for Economic Forecasting and Planning at National and Local Levels” and the German Society for International Cooperation in Uzbekistan (GIZ) held the III Forum of Young Economists on 13 June 2014.
The forum opened with the welcome speeches by Abdumalik Djumanov (WIUT Rector), Avazbek Sadikov (IFMR Director) and Stephen Priesner (UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan), which was followed by the plenary session and discussions in the parallel sessions held at different conference halls and auditoriums around the campus of WIUT.
Aimed at promoting and supporting talented young people interested in doing research, the forum attracted many young economists, researchers, students and others. Their backgrounds included university faculty, students, think-tank employees, policymakers and public sector workers. During the sessions the participants presented their ideas and papers on finding solutions to topical development related issues in contemporary applied economics.
Stephen Priesner said that Uzbekistan can achieve status of mid-income country in short period of time and improved social-economic figures in several areas, which opens perspectives to become mid-high income country. He said that experience of other countries show that there are no standard recipes for achieving the goal. Many countries struck in mid-income countries level for a long time and Uzbekistan should focus to educated economists with good knowledge and skills, who can assess current policy and participate in discussions.
At the forum, the participants discussed reports of young scientists, economists, representatives of research institutes, etc.
