Tashkent hosts meeting on Central Asian security

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Executive Committee of Political Council of Liberal-Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, its faction at the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan held a roundtable dedicated to issues of ensuring stability and security in Central Asia as important conditions for sustainable development of the region.
Members of UzLiDeP underlined that Uzbekistan has selected peaceful and creative development way since the first years of independence. Uzbekistan focuses on peaceful and sustainable development of the region.
It was said that there are conflicts in various regions, including in Central Asia. Terrorism, extremism, illegal weapons and drugs turnover, as well as other challenges are treating to the countries. Preservation of peace and sustainable development of Central Asia, turning it into safety zone and sustainable development, is one of priority tasks of the Concept of foreign policy of Uzbekistan.
Uzbek President Islam Karimov at the 48th session of the UN General Assembly on 23 September 1993 offered to create nuclear free zone in Central Asia. In 200, at the Millennium Summit, Islam Karimov said that Uzbekistan is for strict adhering to the non-proliferation and disarmament. He said that it is impossible to reach stability in global or regional levels without this.
It is worth to mention international community supported other initiates of the Uzbek leader, including on ensuring peace in Afghanistan, fighting drug traffic, terrorism and extremism, creation of nuclear free zone in Central Asia, preventing ecologic catastrophe, etc.
In May 2014, five nuclear powers – the United States, Great Britain, France, China and Russia signed a protocol on guarantees of security to the agreement on nuclear free zone in Central Asia. This helped to realize one of the initiates of the Uzbek leader.
The participants underlined that refusal from nuclear weapons is important step to global security. It was said that the protocol helped to complete legal procedures on creation of nuclear free zone in Central Asia.
It was said that nuclear free zone in Central Asian includes all key aspects of international security - non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and its components, strengthen disarmament regime and deliminitization, fighting terrorism, strengthening regional and international security.
It is worth to mention that the agreement on nuclear free zone in Central Asian became the first agreement, which united all five states – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. They showed political will to ensure regional security and stability.
