Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 10 July, Learning-resource centre (LRC) of Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) organized a republic-wide workshop seminar aimed at sharing experience of library management practices with the managers and specialists of information-resource centres located in the regions of Uzbekistan.
Organized by the initiative of the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the workshop seminar offered a great opportunity to study all aspects of the organizational structure of WIUT LRC, its resources, technologies, online databases etc., with the objective of providing necessary recommendations for the development of regional information-resource centres.
WIUT LRC uses one of the most advanced management practices and resources in Uzbekistan. In particular, computerized catalogue of books and manuals, international digital libraries such as “Emerald”, “Westlaw”, “JSTOR”, “Oxford”, as well as feedback system with the readers, are all among unique features in the higher-education sphere of the country. Furthermore, any student of the university has access to the online catalogue of the library, allowing them to remotely search or reserve necessary literature.
It is worth mentioning that last year, due to the capital renovations of the new campus territory of WIUT, the LRC acquired a brand new look. Nowadays, it is a three-storey building with spacious and luxurious reading room with relevant computer resources, where students are provided with spaces not only for reading and research, but also for discussion and group works. In addition, because of the multi-functional planning of the new building, it is not seldom that LRC hosts different literary and cultural events of the university.
