CNTIC and Belam Riga win tender for railroad electrification in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- China National Technical Import and Export Corporation (CNTIC) and Belam Riga (Latvia) won a tender on supply of equipment for electrification of Maraqand-Qarshi railroad in south of Uzbekistan, RIA Novosti reported.
Within the tender, CNTIC won a lot on supply of transformer substations and contact network, Belam Riga - alarm, centralization and blocking (SCB), telecommunications and SCADA systems.
The tender was announced by Uzbekistan Temir Yollari in April 2013 and its starting price was not more than US$51 million. The contract with the winners will be signed within a month.
Uzbekistan Temir Yollari started to electrify Maraqand-Qarshi railroad with the length of 140.8 km in January 2012. The project envisages reconstruction of locomotive depo in Qarshi to use new railway station Tashguzar-Boisun-Qumkurgan. The project will be implemented within four years.
The project with the cost of US$243.7 million is finance due to own resources of Uzbekistan Temir Yollari for US$110.9 million, the Asian Development Bank – US$100 million, resources of the Government of Uzbekistan as customs and tax preferences – US$23.8 million.
