Uzbekistan produces 8m tonnes of grain

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Farmers of Uzbekistan collected 80 million and 50,000 tonnes of grain, the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov said in his congratulation message to dehkans and farmers.
In his message, Uzbek leader said that he congratulate farmers and dehkans with achievement of production of 8 million and 50,000 tonnes of grain for the first time.
He said that 23 years ago Uzbekistan imported 5 million grains to meet demands of over 21 million people of the c ountry.
Today, he said that the country fully meets demand of 31- million population of Uzbekistan. In past period, Uzbekistan increased grain production from 940,000 tonnes to 8 million tonnes, while average yield rose from 17 to 55 centners per hectare. Uzbek head said this shows impressive achievements of Uzbekistan in this area.
President Islam Karimov said that the weather conditions were not favourable this year as in previoes years, but the farmers’ hard work helped to overcome these obstacles.
Uzbek leader said that over 12.7 million tonnes of organic fertilizers were used at grain fields, which makes up over 11 tonnes per hectare.
Islam Karimov said that average yield in Ferghana and Andijan regions was 62 centners, Samarkand region – 61, Bukhara and Namangan regions – 60, Kashkadarya region – 58, Tashkent region -57, Navoi region – 55, etc.
President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov said that the farmers will keep 5.117 million tonnes of grain or 60% of the crop.
