Uzbekistan improves election legislation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan considered a draft law “On introduction of changes and amendments to some legislative acts of Uzbekistan in connection with improvement of election legislation”.
The draft law was developed on initiative of MPs of the Legislative Chamber within implementation of introduced changes to article 117 of the Constitution, which regulates organization and activities of the Central Election Commission, information service of the Legislative Chamber said.
The document envisages introduction of changes and additional to the law “On Central election commission of Uzbekistan”, Budget Code and Code of administrative responsibility.
Status of Central Election Commission as independent democratic institute, which prepares and holds elections without interference of the state bodies, was included to the Constitution. This is important guarantee and condition for democratic and transparent elections.
The draft law envisages strengthening of guarantee of independence and expansion of authorities of the Central Election Commission. The commission will conduct its operations without interference of the state bodies, public organizations or officials.
Transparency is ensured via participation of political parties, mass media, observers from other governments, international organizations and movements.
Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan approved the concept of the draft law and passed it in the first reading.
