Uzbek FM attends SCO FMs meeting in Dushanbe

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on 30-31 July 2014.
A delegation of Uzbekistan led by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov participated in the session.
Foreign Ministers of Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan considered issues of further deepening and improving multipronged relations and preparation to upcoming summit of the SCO leaders in Dushanbe, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said.
The session considered actual international issues and situation in the region.
The several decisions on further developing interaction within the SCO were adopted.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan said that the session discussed preparations to the SCO leaders’ summit in Dushanbe, which will be held on 11-12 September 2014.
The ministers considered actual international and regional issues, expanding contacts of the SCO with interested states and international organizations. I was noted that the UN should play key coordination role in international affairs and the UN Security Council should be more efficient in implementation of its tasks.
The SCO member states confirmed their adherence to further development of cooperation with interested states and regional and international organizations to fight extremism, terrorism, separatism, illegal drug trafficking, trans-boundary organized crime, etc.
The ministers also underlined that the member states respect independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Afghanistan and supported efforts of Afghan people to reconciliation of people and reconstruct the country, as well as efforts of Afghan Government to ensure peace and stability in the country.
The SCO member states called for settlement of long-lasting conflicts in Middle East and North Africa, which would positively impact to the developments in the region. They noted that Syrian crisis should be solved only with political-diplomatic tools.
The SCO member states also welcomed signing of a protocol on guarantees to the agreement on nuclear free zone in Central Asia, which was signed by Great Britain, China, Russia, USA and France in New York on 6 May 2014. It was noted that this is important step in implementation of initiative, which will contribute to strengthening of regional and international security.
The SCO Foreign Ministers expressed condolences to relatives and friends of the victims of the air accident with airplane of Malaysian Airlines, which occurred in Ukraine on 17 July 2014. They called to hold open, objective and independent investigation of the accident.
The sides underlined importance of cooperation in ensuring international information security within the SCO and within the UN. They noted readiness to boost cooperation to fight use of internet and information telecommunication technologies to undermining political, economic and public security in the member-states, to promote terrorism, extremism, separatism, fascism. They called to develop universal plans and norms of the states in information area.
The Foreign Ministers approved a draft decision of the Council of the heads of the SCO “On draft strategy for SCO development till 2025”, which determines perspectives of the organization and improves efficiency of the organization.
Foreign Ministers also approved draft decision of the SCO leaders’ on celebration of the 70th anniversary of the victory in the World War II.
The delegations approved a draft order on providing status of member state of the SCO and draft of new edition of standard memorandum on liabilities of the applicant-states to receive member status in the SCO.
The delegations also considered other issues, related to the activities of the SCO and its bodies, as well as preparations to the upcoming SCO leaders’ summit in Dushanbe.
