JICA and Uzbekistan sign grant agreement for US$2.05m

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Uzbekistan Office has signed Grand Agreement for 211 million Japanese yens (more than US$2.05 million) for providing academic opportunities for officials of national ministry/agencies and state companies of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the framework of JICA’s Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) Program.
Grant agreement was signed by Mr. Masao Shikano, Chief Representative of JICA Uzbekistan Office, and by Mr. Adkham Ikramov, Deputy Prime-Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, on 22 August 2014.
The grant allocated by JICA to the Government of Uzbekistan is aimed for the purchase of the service necessary for the arrangements to provide Masters’ Program for Uzbekistan students to study in Japanese higher educational institutions in 2016-2018.
JDS Project implemented by the Government of Japan since 1999 is aimed at professional development. Until now 236 citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan undertook diverse Master degree programs in universities of Japan. Every year 15 young and talented citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan are selected on a competitive basis to study in Japan.
