Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan will continue to decrease supply of natural gas to Russia and increase supplies to China, RIA Novosti reported quoting source in the Department of fuel-energy complex of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan.
Recently mass media reported that Gazprom is planning to stop buying of natural gas from Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan and currently the company is working on abolishing intergovernmental agreements on gas supplies.
By 2021, China will become main export direction of the Uzbek gas, the source said. He said that Uzbekistan will deliver 10 billion cubic meters of gas to China in 2015 against 6 billion cubic meters in 2013. He said that there are resources to increase supply of gas, including due to freed volumes.
The source said that taking into account market situation and decreased demand in Russia, the Uzbek side started to diversify gas exports two years ago, first of all, to China. He said that in next 5-6 years, the maximum volume of exports of gas of Uzbekistan can make up at least 15-16 billion cubic meters a year, which will help change main buyers without “pain”.
Uzbekneftegaz management stated Uzbekistan supplied 13 billion cubic meters of gas in 2013 and the country planned to increase exports by 20% compared to 2013.
Uzbekistan annually produces 63-65 billion cubic meters of gas, of which 50 billion cubic meters consumed in internal market. Uzbekistan supplied 7.5 billion cubic meters of gas in 2013 against 8.7 billion cubic meters in 2012 in line with the agreement with Gazprom.
