UNDP Administrator Helen Clark visits Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- To review achievements made by UNDP Uzbekistan and to pave the way for future initiatives, UNDP Administrator Ms. Helen Clark will visit national project sites and meet with key national partners in Uzbekistan from 15 to 20 October.
Her visit will include meetings with representatives of government partners, and a tour to regional project sites within the Karakalpakstan and the Aral Sea region.
After arriving in Tashkent City on 15 October, Ms. Clark will meet with representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, before attending the launch of the ‘Rule of Law Partnership in Uzbekistan’ project, jointly implemented by UNDP and the Supreme Court, with the intention of strengthening public access to and trust in the judiciary branch.
On 17 October, Ms. Clark will visit the Earthquake Simulation Complex at the Institute of Civil Defence in Tashkent, as established with financial assistance from the European Commission, under UNDP management. Once fully operational it will be the only such facility in the Central Asia region, which experiences a high level of seismic activity.
Ms. Clark will travel to the Karakalpakstan on 18 October, to witness first-hand the work of the UN Aral Sea Programme and related UNDP projects. Following a meeting with the regional government, Ms. Clark will visit the Cemetery of Ships in the Muynak district, to reflect on this symbol of the Aral Sea disaster and the need for continued efforts to address its impacts. Ms. Clark will also visit a Rural Health Facility in the Muynak district that has undergone renovation and has benefited from the installation of alternative energy resources.
Also on 18 October, Ms. Clark will travel to the Kanlikul district with the Aral Sea region, to visit the sites of income generation and community social infrastructure projects supported by the UN Joint Programme. Undertaken since 2012, the programme has worked intensively to improve the economic, food, health and environmental security of low-income communities in the Karakalpakstan. In Kanlikul Ms. Clark will visit the water supply project site in the Naiman community, both the milk processing income generation project and ‘Kanlikul Moda’ sewing shop income generation project in the district centre, and the ‘Khojanazar Akhun’ bee-keeping site.
On 19 October Ms. Clark will visit the ‘I.V. Savitsky’ Karakalpakstan State Museum of Art, which hosts the world’s second largest collection of Russian avant-garde art, before touring the ‘Tugai’ forests of the nearby Lower Amudarya Biosphere Reserve, and the City of Khiva UNESCO World Heritage site.
On 20 October, Ms. Clark will visit the historic sites in the City of Bukhara, before returning to Tashkent City to meet with government partners and she will depart Tashkent in the evening of the same day.
