Uzbek leader receives UNDP Administrator

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Administrator of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) Helen Clark at the presidential residence Oqsaroy on 17 October 2014, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan said.
Welcoming the guest, Islam Karimov underlined productive character of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN as a whole, as well as UNDP, in particular.
It was underlined that Uzbekistan and UNDP implemented 211 projects for US$184 million in 20 years. Currently, over 30 projects on supporting of democratic, judicial-legal and social-economic reforms in Uzbekistan are implemented in the country.
Helen Clark highly rated economic achievements of Uzbekistan, which records at least 8% growth of GDP in last 10 years.
UNDP Administrator expressed support to international conference “Development of cooperation in the Aral Sea Basin to mitigate consequences of envivonmental catastrophe”, which will be held in Urgench in late October 2014, on behalf of the UN and its Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
At the meeting, the sides exchanged opinion on other issues of further expanding of interaction between Uzbekistan and the UN.
