Rio Tinto plans to expand copper exploration in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Rio Tinto, an Australian-British company, is planning to get new fields to geological exploration of copper in Uzbekistan, manager on geological exploration of Rio Tinto in Central Asia Harry Hodgkinson said.
Speaking at the conference within MiningWorld Uzbekistan-2014 in Tashkent, he said that the company plans to create a portfolio of projects on copper exploration and hopes to receive opportunity to select perspective fields in several regions of Uzbekistan.
In July, Rio Tinto started exploration drilling for copper at perspective field Gava in Namangan region. He said that the drilling will continue in 2015 as it is difficult process.
The State Committee on geology and mineral resources issued license for five years to hold exploration works at perspective field Gava in December 2012.
Gava Exploration LLC, fully owned by Rio Tinto, was created to carry out exploration works. The forecasted resources of the licensed field are not disclosed.
