Large enterprises of Uzbekistan install new equipment for US$184.5m

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Large enterprises of Uzbekistan replaced 2,770 units of old equipment to new ones for US$184.5 million within measures on improving competitiveness of industries in nine months of 2014.
The Ministry of Economy and State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan said that re-equipment of enterprises, optimization of production processes and decreasing expanses for raw materials and materials helped to decrease prime cost at the large enterprises by 9.2% in average, while productivity rose by 6.6%.
The measures on modernization and re-equipment of enterprises helped to deepen structural reforms and diversification of industries.
The high growth rates were recorded in such spheres as machinery and metal processing (+14.2%), industry of construction materials (+13%), light industry (+15.9%, knitting industry -18%, clothing industry – 26.1%, and cotton industry – 25.4%), pharmaceutical (+13.9%), non-ferrous metals (+13.4%) and food industry (+9.7%).
Share of these industries in total industrial production rose from 54.5% in nine months of 2013 to 59% in nine months of 2014.
The banks allocated loans for 2.6 trillion soums of loans to stimulate production of consumer goods in nine months of 2014, which rose by 24.7% year-on-year, of which 1.2 trillion soums were issued to production of consumer goods (+22.2%) and non-food products – 1.4 trillion soums (+27%).
The production of consumer goods rose by 11.3% in January-September 2014, including food products – 7.9% and non-food products – 13.6%.
