President: Angren-Pap railroad to be launched in 2016

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan is planning to commission new electrified railroad Angren-Pap in July 2016, the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov said at his congratulation to the team of state joint stock railway company “Uzbekistan Temir Yollari” in connection with the 20th anniversary of the company.
Uzbekistan pins great hopes with implementation of one of largest projects in transport communication – construction of new electrified railroad Angren-Pap with 19 km tunnel with participation of Chinese partners, he said.
Launch of the railway in July 2016 will help link regions of Ferghana Valley with central parts of Uzbekistan and complete formation of single railway transport system in the country, he said. Karimov added that new railway will be important part of new international transit railway corridor China-Central Asian-Europe, he added.
Uzbekistan Temir Yollari started construction of electrified railroad Angren-Pap in July 2014. The road will go through Qamchiq Pass and link Ferghana Valley (Andijan, Namangan and Ferghana regions) with other part of Uzbekistan.
China Railway Tunnel Group constructs tunnel of the railway with the cost of US$455 million.
Preliminary cost of the project makes up US$1.769 billion. The project will be financed due to resources of the state budget, own resources of Uzbekistan Temir Yollari and loans of international financial institutions.
