Projects for US$300m implemented in Uzbek special economic zones

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Some 36 investment projects with total cost of about US$300 million were implemented in free economic zones in Uzbekistan so far, the press service of the Ministry of Economy of Uzbekistan said.
Ministry recalled that Uzbekistan created free industrial-economic zone Navoi in 2009, special industrial zones Angren and Jizzakh in 2012 and 2013 repsectively.
Currently, some 36 projects investment projects with total cost of about US$300 million were implemented in these free economic zones, the ministry said.
At the same time, another 23 projects with total cost of US$123 million are implemented in these zones in cooperation with foreign partners.
Creation of free economic zones provided additional conditions and mechanisms to expand investment activities of foreign investors and helped to launch production of competitive products both in internal and external markets such as telecommunication, oil and gas equipment, chemical products, construction materials, automobile components, etc.
The zones also allowed to use rich raw materials and labour forces in the regions to launch production of modern export-oriented industrial goods, which helps to employment and improving well-being of population.
