Uzbek customs officers detain ancient coins

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Customs officers of Uzbekistan detained a citizen of Afghanistan, who attempted to smuggle into the country 42 ancient silver and copper coins.
The State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan said that the incident was recorded at Airitom customs point in Termez (Surkhandarya region).
Citizen of Afghanistan replaced buttons of his clothes with ancient coins and painted them to black. The violator was attracted to administrative responsibility and paid a fine.
The coins are dated back to the Greco-Bactrian state (III -II centuries BC) and the remaining coins were minted in the state of Samanids (IX - X century).
The cost of the coins rated at 16.5 million soums. The collection of seized coins was handed over to numismatics department of Archeology Museum of Surkhandarya region.
