Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan is a largest trade partner of Malaysia in Central Asia, Trade Commissioner of the Embassy of Malaysia in Russia and representative of Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) for CIS Zainuddin Jalil said during press conference in Tashkent.
He said that trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Malaysia made up US$71.5 million in 2013, which rose by 9.1% compared to 2012. The volume of export of Malaysia to Uzbekistan grew by 19.4% year-on-year to US$69.8 million, while import from Uzbekistan fell by 76.9% - to US$1.6 million.
According to statistics data of Malaysia, the volume of trade between two states rose by 42.5% - to US$72.3 million in nine months of 2014. Malaysia’s exports reached US$56.7 million and import – US$15.6 million. Zainuddin Jalil noted that Uzbekistan’s exports to Malaysia grew by 931% in nine months of 2014 compared to the same period of 2014.
He said that the growth was recorded due to supply of electronic and electrotechnical products to Malaysia.
Zainuddin Jalil said that main export items of Malaysia to Uzbekistan in 2013 were palm oils and raw materials from them (29%), food products and raw materials (24%), electronics and electrotechnical goods (12%), coconut oil (10%) and products from latex (for example medical gloves).
Last year Malaysia imported agriculture products (65%), mainly tobacco products (63%), and chemical fertilizers (32%).
Zainuddin Jalil stated that Uzbekistan is the largest trade partner of Malaysia in Central Asia. He said that 41.2% of total trade turnover of Malaysia with Central Asian states fell to share of Uzbekistan.
He said that about 49.2% of exports of Malaysia to Central Asia fell to share of Uzbekistan, while about Uzbekistan accounts 35.5% of total imports from Central Asia to Malaysia.
MATRADE representative said Malaysia is interested in further developing trade-economic relations with Uzbekistan. In order to increase bilateral trade, MATRADE is planning to participate in exhibitions in Uzbekistan and present goods and services of Malaysian companies, he added.
