Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- One of the environmental projects implemented in Uzbekistan has received a high appraisal abroad. The manager of the completed UNDP project ‘Achieving Ecosystem Stability on Degraded Land in Karakalpakstan and the Kyzylkum Desert’, Irina Bekmirzaeva has been awarded with an Honorary diploma from the ‘Energy Globe Award’ international Fund.
The project was implemented during a five year period, and promoted innovative technical solutions for securing sands, searched for the best tools for integrated land use, and addressed other issues related to the economy of these regions. The obtained results have drawn interest, and can be duplicated in other regions of Uzbekistan and in nations far beyond the borders of our republic with similar climatic conditions.
The recognitions delivered by the ‘Energy Globe Award’ fund are among the most prestigious within the field of ecology. They have been awarded since the end of the last century, for the implementation of projects that have contributed to the economical use of land resources, and use of alternative energy sources.
The initiative for establishing this award is owned by the Austrian engineer and environmentalist Wolfgang Neumann. The ‘Energy Globe Award’ fund operates with the support of Austrian entrepreneurs, and under the patronage of UNESCO and UNEP.
