First website dedicated to pistachios in Central Asia launched

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Global Environment Facility’s Small Grants Programme (GEF SGP), with support from UNDP in Uzbekistan and the Republican scientific-production Centre for Ornamental Horticulture and Forestry, has announced the launch of a thematic internet portal of pistachios. It is already available for users at the www.pistachio.uz address.
On the site you can find all necessary information pistachios, including where, why and how they should be planted it, and the contact information of professionals engaged in growing pistachios. On the website you can learn about the natural environment most suitable for pistachios, about the technology used in its cultivation, and you can become acquainted with the economic calculations that demonstrate the benefits of its cultivation. On the same site each farmer can share experiences, ask for advice and offer their products for sale through the ‘Business offer’ section. It is important that the site is available in three languages, in Uzbek, Russian and English, but it is designed primarily for the residents of our country.
In the context of climate change, land use practices in rain-fed areas are economically and environmentally unsustainable. That is why it is very important to take new steps to prevent such threats, and more efficient use of dry lands in the climatic conditions of Uzbekistan. Cultivation of pistachios is the most profitable kind of rainfed agriculture in Uzbekistan, and all aspects of the practice explained in detail on the website.
The web portal is an initiative of the GEF SGP in Uzbekistan and supported by the Republican Scientific and Production Center ornamental horticulture and forestry, which is engaged in cultivation, research and dissemination of pistachio nuts for a long time.
