South Korea to provide US$6m grant to Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Government of the Republic of Korea will provide a US$6 million grant to Uzbekistan to realize the second phase of the project “Improving quality of diagnosis of patients with infectious diseases in the Republic of Uzbekistan (increased food and water disease surveillance)”.
The resolution of the Government of Uzbekistan said that Ministry of Healthcare of Uzbekistan and Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) will sign a separate protocol, which will determine list of equipment, tools, materials and vehicles, which will be supplied within the project.
In line with the legislation, goods (works and services) purchased within the grant will be exempted from customs payments (excluding customs registration fee) and value added tax.
Within the project, the grant will be used to supply equipment, tools, materials and vehicles, as well as improving skills of medical personal of the Centers of state sanitary-epidemiologic supervision of Uzbekistan, Namangan, Bukhara, Navoi and Kashkadarya region and pilot studying of echinococcosis at Scientific-research institute of parasitology in Samarkand city.
The resolution said that imported equipment, tools and materials should undergo quality control inspection without registration and certification.
Ministry of Healthcare of Uzbekistan is set as executive body and responsible agency for targeted and efficient use of the grant.
