Disaster risk to be reduced in “Kamchik” pass

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A new component of on-going UNDP ‘Strengthening Disaster Risk Management Capacitates in Uzbekistan’ project ‘Disaster Risk Reduction in “Kamchik” Pass’ funded by the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Department (ECHO) and UNDP Uzbekistan was launched recently.
The main goal of the component is to create system of monitoring and observation for geologic processes at the Kamchik pass to render aid to vulnerable layers of population, living in the areas, which are located in risky areas.
Kamchik pass is a strategic object for Uzbekistan, which links Ferghana Valley with other parts of Uzbekistan. About 10,000-15,000 cars travel along the pass a day.
Within the system, it is planned to improve system of monitoring over dangerous natural occurrences and create mobile app to determine location of emergcny situation, launch of new website of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, etc.
