Samarkand region to attract US$70.4m of investments in 2015

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Samarkand region of Uzbekistan is planning to attract US$70.4 million of investments of 28 foreign enterprises in 2015.
Pravda Vostoka newspaper reported that this will help to create 2,000 new jobs and the exports volume will grow up to US$190 million.
The paper said that the region attracted US$316.1 million within implementation of 312 investment projects in 2008-2014. The volume of attracted investments in 2014 made up US$57.3 million, which rose three times compared to 2008 (US$18.8 million).
Due to attraction of investments, over 90 new joint ventures and foreign enterprises were created in Samarkand region in 2014.
Number of registered joint ventures in Samarkand region was 154 in 2008 and 247 in 2014. Among them are MAN Auto, Lohmann Tirzucht (Germany), ISUZU (Japan), Yong One Corporation (South Korea), Dionis international (USA). Over 8,500 people were employed in the result.
In last seven years, companies from over 20 countries invested into economy of Uzbekistan. Investments were directed to such industries as light and food industries, chemical industry, production of construction materials, footwear, pharmaceuticals and services.
Number of exporting enterprises rose from 48 in 2018 to 127 in 2014. Samarkand region exports its products to Europe, China, UAE, Iran, Turkey and other states.
