South Korean Ambassador visits Tashkent Vocational Training Center

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 18 February 2015, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Uzbekistan Lee Wook-heon visited the Vocational Training Center located in Sergeli district of Tashkent city.
This training Center with a budget of US$4 million had been established from 2007 to 2012 with the assistance of Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and is the first of its kind in Uzbekistan. Since the start of operations in July 2012 up to present, the Center conducted five enrollments of students, about 1,230 people have completed the training. Currently, about 360 students from the fifth enrollment are studying the verges of professional technologies in the Center.
Ambassador Lee Wook-heon was accompanied by Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr. Botir Alimukhamedov. The guests viewed the main and practical training buildings, attended the classes and got acquainted with the system of educational process.
The Vocational Training Center has 4 faculties such as machinery building, automobile, electrical engineering and ICT. The Centre is making every effort to improve vocational and technical education in Uzbekistan, as well as for the training of qualified technical workers.
During his visit, Ambassador Lee Wook-heon appealed to the management of the Center - Director Ravshan Ibragimov, KOICA volunteers and instructors with the following words: "I hope that this vocational training center will assist in technology transfer and training of technical workers who will continue contributing to the development of Uzbekistan’s economy and industry".
Also, Mr. Lee Wook-heon stated that following the Tashkent Training Centre, currently two more KOICA projects are underway. They are: “The Project for Capacity building of Vocational Training Education in Samarkand region of Uzbekistan” (2013-2016 / US$6.4 million) and “The Project for Establishment of Vocational Training Center in Shahrisabz city and Consulting on Capacity Building of Vocational Education in Uzbekistan” (2014-2017 / US$8.5 million).
The Government of the Republic of Korea will continue to assist in the field of vocational training in order to prepare highly qualified technical specialists throughout Uzbekistan.
