OSCE/ODIHR observers hold talks at CEC

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting with members of a limited election observation mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) led by Ambassador Tana de Zulueta.
Deputy Chairperson of the CEC Komiljon Adilov briefed the mission on presidential election campaign. The guests familiarized with the programme of main actions on preparation and holding elections of the President of Uzbekistan, approved by the CEC. It was noted that the CEC and territorial bodies will fully adhere to election legislation and ensure transparency, openness and legality of campaign.
The sides exchanged opinion on organization of the activities of the OSCE/ODIHR observation mission, interaction with the CEC within observation of presidential elections in Uzbekistan.
At the meeting, the sides considered recent changes to the Constitution, which strengthened independence of the CEC, and laws, on strengthening liability of individuals and legal entities, participating in election process.
It was underlined that work of the mission of the OSCE/ODIHR will serve to openness and transparency of election process, and its organization in line with international standards and norms.
Tana de Zulueta notedthat mission will observe election in long-term bases in line with the terms and order, set by legislation of Uzbekistan. She said the mission will observe agitation of campaign of the candidates, work of mass media, visit the regions of Uzbekistan and familiarize with work of election commissions.
