Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Minister of Economy and Industry of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafaev visited the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade of Uzbekistan on 26 February 2015.
At the meeting, the sides considered current state and perspectives of the Uzbek-Azerbaijani relations in trade-economic and transport-communication spheres.
Shahin Mustafaev said that Azerbaijan pays priority to timely and full implementation of agreements reached between leaders of two states He said that Uzbekistan is a key partner for Azerbaijan. Visit of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov to Azerbaijan in October 2012 became milestone event in bilateral relations. The visit once again demonstrated open and trustful relation between leaders of two states. At the meeting of highest level, the sides determined concrete directions and tasks of cooperation for long-term perspective.
Azeri minister said that Azerbaijan is happy for achievements of Uzbekistan. He said that despite global economic crisis, Uzbekistan is recording 8% GDP growth a year, which is result of wise policy of the Uzbek President Islam Karimov.
Mustafaev underlined that Uzbekistan is a state with high developed and diversified economy. He said that Uzbekistan was able to create high technological sector of economy as automobile from the scratch. He noted that the automobile industry produces modern cars, which can compete with foreign cars.
He said that Uzbekistan also achieved high results in agriculture, producing 8.5 million tonnes of wheat, 3.6 million tonnes of cotton and 16 million tonnes of vegetables and fruits, which shows that the country fully solved tasks on food security.
The sides affirmed that further expansion of mutual trade is priority direction of bilateral relations. It was said that two countries should promote their products in the markets of each other.
The sides noted that bilateral trade turnover rose twice in 2014, but the figure does not satisfy both countries. There are possibilities to increase bilateral trade to the level, which meets potential of economic of two states.
Azerbaijan expressed in purchase of automobiles, commercial vehicles, agriculture products, electronics and chemical goods, ready textile products, construction materials, fertilizers, fruits and vegetables, wheat and other goods.
In this context, the sides expressed necessity to organize national exhibitions in 2015, which would help to further expand trade, establish contacts among business circles, as well as establish industrial cooperation.
The sides also considered issues of interaction in transport and transit sphere. It was noted that it is necessary to optimize tariffs and provide competitive conditions for transportation of foreign trade freights. The sides discussed opportunities on use of railway corridor Baku-Tbilisi-Ahalkalaki-Kars, which will be launched in 2015.
The officials discussed issues of organizing a session of joint intergovernmental commission of cooperation by the end of 2015 to boost mutual beneficial trade-economic cooperation.
