Two Uzbek parties to oppose Block of Democratic Forces

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (PDPU) and the Social Democratic Party of Uzbekistan “Adolat” announced on Monday that they are in opposition to the Bloc of Democratic Forces.
Bloc of Democratic Forces was founded by the movement of entrepreneurs and businessmen – the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (UzLiDeP) and Democratic Party of Uzbekistan “Milliy Tiklanish” on 14 March.
Factions of the PDPU and SDPU Adolat held their sessions on 16 March and discussed their positions to creation of Bloc of Democratic Forces, which will make up majority at the parliament.
The participants discussed issues of further promotion of ideas and tasks, determined in pre-election platforms of the party and developed their positions to creation of the Bloc of Democratic Forces by UzLiDeP and Milliy Tiklanish.
PDPU and Adolat factions adopted decisions that they will be in opposition to the Bloc of Democratic Forces, which will make up majority at the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis (lower house of the Uzbek parliament).
The faction of PDPU, as a parliamentary opposition, said that it will promote ideas intended to strengthen the state’s regulatory role in the economy, what provides the economy’s social orientation and realization of a strong social policy, using growing economic potential to improve life standards of population, social protection of population and socially vulnerable and law income layers of population.
The party’s priority program includes the introduction of sound mechanisms of determining the minimum subsistence standards and compliance of minimum wages and pensions with these standards. The faction said that it will also focus on optimizing cost of render communal services to population via improving state regulation of tariffs for these services.
The PDPU faction advocates the introduction of modern methods of organizing the employment and strengthening parliamentary control over the implementation of the programme on creation of jobs in the country.
The PDPU said that it is ready to offer and defend its solutions on those issues, on which it has different view compared to views of the Bloc of Democratic Forces.
The faction plans to use legislative mechanisms of the interparty competition in the parliament, the rights and powers of the parliamentary opposition to achieve the program objectives of the party.
Members of SDPU Adolat said at the meeting that there are some differences in the positions of parties and the Bloc of Democratic Forces in the priority areas of socio-economic and socio-political development of the country.
The faction will focus its efforts on tightening the social responsibility of business, active development of public-private partnership, strengthening state control over ensuring protection of the rights of intellectual property, offering tax benefits to enterprises based on their social and public usefulness of their activities.
Adolat will protect the interests of its electorate - highly skilled professionals and workers, representatives of the scientific, engineering and technical intelligentsia, teachers and doctors – with parliamentary methods.
The session noted that the faction will use all existing legal mechanisms, envisaged in the legislation of Uzbekistan, in protecting interests and rights of its electorate.
