Uzbekistan to modernize thermal power station by 2020

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A project on installation of two gas steam facilities with the capacity of 230-280 megawatts at Takhiatash thermal power station in Karakalakstan with the cost of US$695.3 million will be implemented by 2020, the Minister of Economy of Karakalpakstan Kahramon Sariev said.
He said that it is planned to implement the project on installation of two gas steam facilities with the capacity of 230-280 megawatts at Takhiatash thermal power station with attracting investments for US$695.3 million in 2013-2020. Some US$4.8 million were invested into the project in 2014, he added.
The Minister said that the launch of new objects will help to increase the capacity of the station from 730 megawatts to 930 megawatts and production of electricity will grow from 3.1 billion KWH to 5.4 billion KWH. The project will help to save up to 488.6 million cubic meters of gas a year.
The project will be financed due to loan of the Asian Development Bank for US$300 million, issued to Uzbekistan in September 2014, resources of the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan and Uzbekenergo.
The capacity of Takhiatash thermal power station is 730 megawatts. The first energy unit was commissioned in 1956 and last (fifth) – 1976. The station supplies electricity to Karakalpakstan and Khorezm region.
