SCO observation mission starts work in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A mission of observers from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) led by its Secretary-General Dmitry Mezentsev arrived in Uzbekistan to observe presidential elections in Uzbekistan.
Chairperson of the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan Mirzo-Ulugbek Abdusalamov met with the mission and presented information on carried out work within preparations to the presidential elections in Uzbekistan.
It was noted that all measures were carried out in line with the legislation on election. The measures on preparation and holding of the elections of the President of Uzbekistan were open and transparent. The observers from international organizations and foreign states are monitoring election process.
The pre-election agitation campaign of four candidates to the post of the President of Uzbekistan will be completed soon. Trustees of the candidates are holding meetings with the voters. The candidates received equal opportunity to use mass media outlets, meet voters and other forms of agitation.
On 19 March, the voters, who cannot vote on 29 March, started to cast their votes to polling stations.
SCO Secretary-General Dmitry Mezentsev said that the SCO mission includes 10 members. The mission will carry out their activities independently and based on principles of political neutrality and objectiveness.
