Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Elections of the President of Uzbekistan will be held in Uzbekistan today, on 29 March 2015. The polling stations will open their doors at 6:00.
The Central Election Commission registered four candidates to the post of the President of Uzbekistan – from the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen - Liberal-Democratic Party of Uzbekistan – Islam Karimov, the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan – Hotamjon Ketmonov, the Democratic Party of Uzbekistan "Milly Tiklanish" – Akmal Saidov and the Social-democratic party "Adolat" – Narimon Umarov.
During the briefing on 28 March 2015, chairperson of the Central Election Commission Mirza-Ulugbek Abdusalamov said that in line with the legislation, 14 territorial election commissions, over 9,000 polling stations, including 44 polling stations at the missions of Uzbekistan in foreign countries.
Polling stations are provided with all the necessary equipment for the ballot. Voting booths and voting boxes were installed at the polling stations, he said.
The CEC chief said that 20,798,052 million have right to cast their votes in the elections and all of them were notified about time and place of voting.
According to the law, the voters, who have no chance to vote at their place of residence, received opportunity to vote in advance, he said.
The CEC of Uzbekistan registered about 300 observers from 43 countries and five international organizations – the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (ODIHR OSCE), Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Shanghai Cooperation Organization, World Association of electoral bodies and Organization of the Islamic Cooperation. Over 35,000 observers from four political parties will also observe presidential elections.
About 1,000 representatives of local and foreign mass media were accredited to cover presidential elections in Uzbekistan.
