Uzbekistan hosts Immunization Week

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The 10th annual European Immunization Week (EIW), which is initiated by the World Health Organization, will be held in Uzbekistan on 20-25 April 201.
The event is dedicated to World Immunization Week, which is carried out under motto “Eliminate gaps in immunization”, the press service of the Ministry of Healthcare of Uzbekistan said.
Outbreaks of measles, poliomyelitis caused by "wild" poliovirus and other infectious diseases in European states and neighboring countries (Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan) showed that there is a threat of spread of disease across borders.
Immunization is one of successful and efficient measures in healthcare o protect life and health of people, the ministry said.
Within the campaign, it is planned to carry out mass immunization of elder people against hepatitis B, which will be conducted within the state program “Year of attention and care for the elder generation” from 23 April to 1 May 2015.
Children at the age from six months to 3 years, who were not vaccinated yet, will receive vaccines against polio, measles and diphtheria.
The ministry said that special attention will be paid to explain importance of immunization among parents.
