Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A seminar “Establishing partnership relations between companies of Uzbekistan and Latvia” has been held at the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which was directed at developing trade-economic relations between two states.
Ambassador of Uzbekistan in Latvia Adzal Artikov and head of international cooperation and protocol of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan Marat Juraev participated at the event.
Uzbek envoy said that Latvia is an important partner for Uzbekistan among the EU states. He said that three trade houses of Uzbekistan are operating in Riga and several firms with Latvian capital are operating in Uzbekistan. Latvian businesspeople attract business from oil processing and furniture production to food industry and logistics.
Marat Juraev briefed the participants on development of small businesses in Uzbekistan and conditions created for foreign investors. It was noted that Uzbekistan launched e-government and over 194 services from 110 state organizations provide service via the system.
Uzbekistan provides service on registration of businesses on one-stop-shop methods. The tax burden fell by three times in last 15 years. There are three industrial-economic zones – Navoi, Angren and Jizzakh, which provide tax preferences and developed infrastructure.
Trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Latvia made up US$245 million. Latvia imports from Central Asia – oil to fruits. Latvia exports equipment, medicaments, sugar and confectionery products. A joint project of Latvia and Uzbekistan – transport-logistic hub – are implemented at Liepaja.
Marat Juraev said that Uzbekistan and Latvia can cooperate in textile industry from production of yarns to women and men’s clothes and carpets. Uzbekistan is among Top-5 cotton producers. The Uzbek side is interested in creating joint projects on developing and modernizing agriculture, projects in green energy – bio gas and solar batteries.
