Tashkent hosts conference on strengthening independence of mass media

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An international conference “Strengthening self-dependency and independence of mass media – guarantee of ensuring freedom of speech and information” will be held in Tashkent on 11 May.
The conference will include panel discussions. At the discussions, the participants will consider actual issues of mass media development. Within the media days, it is planned to organize several trainings with participation of national and international specialists. The events will cover several regions – Samarkand city, Nukus city, and Tashkent city. The media days will be completed with a traditional festival “Jurnalistlar bahori”.
The conference will be attended by over 100 experts and specialists from 30 organizations and over 20 international institutions and embassies, as well as 50 representatives of mass media from all regions of the country.
The event was organized by the National Association of Electronic Mass Media (NAESMI), Parliamentary Commission on management of funds of the Public Foundation on support of NGOs and other civil society under Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, Konrad Adenauer Foundation, OSCE Office and UNESCO Office in Uzbekistan and others.
The conference is aimed at discussing issues of further strengthening independence of mass media, including economic independence, strengthening civil position of the mass media, developing competitive media products, etc.
At the event, the foreign participants will also receive information on development of mass media in Uzbekistan, ensuring freedom of speech and information.
