Uzbekistan, Iran discuss development of trade-economic relations

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation of Iran led by Minister of Industry, mine and trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh visited Uzbekistan and participated in the eleventh session of the Uzbek-Iranian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation on 4 June 2015.
Representatives of ministries, departments and associations and companies of Uzbekistan and Iran attended the session. The participants considered issues of further deepening trade-economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Iran, increasing mutual trade, participation of Iranian companies in the projects in Uzbekistan, cooperation in transport and transit spheres, including implementation of international transport and transit corridor Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman.
The Uzbek side presented economic potential of Uzbekistan and perspective projects for joint implementation. Iranian side also received information on privatization process, reforms in economy, conditions created for foreign investors in Uzbekistan, including at special economic zones Navoi, Jizzakh and Angren.
It was noted that Uzbekistan and Iran are interested in further expanding mutual trade and cooperation in trade-economic, investment and scientific-technical areas. It was said that the sides can develop cooperation in such spheres as transport and communication, food, agriculture, electrotechnical and pharmaceutics.
On the same time, the business circles of Uzbekistan and Iran held negotiations to discuss cooperation and implementation of joint ventures.
Iran is one of important partners of Uzbekistan. Trade turnover between two states rose by 38% to US$374.9 million in 2014. In the first quarter of 2015, the figure reached US$140 million.
There are 116 joint ventures with Iranian capital in Uzbekistan, of which 19 are companies with 100% Iranian investments. Eight enterprises of Iran accredited their offices at MFERIT.
