Uzbekistan to present report on execution of civil and political rights covenant

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan will present its report on execution of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights to the UN Committee on human rights on 8-9 July 2015.
The UN Committee will start its next session in Geneva on 29 June, the UN Radio reported. The committee will consider reports of the Governments of the UK, Venesuela, Spain, Canada, Macedonia, Uzbekistan and France on implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Uzbekistan will present its report on 8-9 July.
The Human Rights Committee is composed of 18 independent experts who are persons of high moral character and recognized competence in the field of human rights. Members are elected for a term of four years by States parties in accordance with articles 28 to 39 of the Covenant. Members serve in their personal capacity and may be re-elected if nominated.
The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights is a multilateral treaty adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 16 December 1966, and in force from 23 March 1976. It commits its parties to respect the civil and political rights of individuals, including the right to life, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, electoral rights and rights to due process and a fair trial. The Covenant has 168 parties.
