Uzbekistan, Switzerland to hold session of IPC, business forum

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan and Switzerland will hold a session of intergovernmental commission on trade and economic co-operation (IPC) in Bern on 30 June 2015.
On 1 July 2015, Zurich will host a business forum with participation of business circles of the two countries, Jahon news agency reported.
The main purpose of the two upcoming events is to discuss on further expanding cooperation and definition of the tasks for the near future, as well as establishing contacts between entrepreneurs and presentation capabilities of the Uzbek and Swiss companies.
Trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Switzerland made up US$150.2 million in 2014, which grew by US$86.3 million compared to 2013.
Uzbekistan exports services, cotton fiber and petroleum products, pulp and other wood, importing, in turn, mechanical and electrical equipment, pastries, devices and optical devices, as well as pharmaceutical products to Switzerland.
In accordance with the Agreement between Uzbekistan and Swiss Confederation on trade and economic cooperation signed in 1993, trade between the two countries established preferential treatment.
There are 77 companies in Uzbekistan with participation of Swiss investors, of which 55 are joint ventures and 22 – with 100% foreign capital. The Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of Uzbekistan accredited 29 offices of Swiss companies, which operate in such areas as pharmaceutical, chemical, food and engineering industries, as well as travel services.
