UST invites Uzbek students to study in South Korea

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The University of Science and Technology in Korea (UST) signed memorandums of understanding with the universities of Uzbekistan, the President of the UST, Doctor Un Woo Lee said in Tashkent on 14 July.
Un Woo Lee said that the memorandums of understandings were signed with the Tashkent University of Information Technologies (TUIT) and Inha University in Tashkent.
He said that the sides will cooperate in exchange of students and joint co-teaching within the framework of the MoUs.
The UST delegation arrived in Uzbekistan on 12 July and will stay in the country till 16 July.
The UST President said that the visit is aimed at attracting gifted students and expanding cooperation of the UST with Central Asia. Another goal is to establish cooperation in research sphere.
Within the visit, the UST delegation held negotiations and meetings at TUIT and Inha University in Tashkent, Irrigation Univesity, Ministry for development of information technologies and UNICON.UZ.
All students of the UST are freed from payment of tuition and receive stipend for US$1,100-US$1,500 a month.
Doctor Un Woo Lee underlined that the difference of the UST from other universities is that other universities pay more attention to education and less to research. He added that the UST instead pays great attention to researches. He said that the students spent large part of their time on researches.
He said that over 1,000 students study at the UST and about 30% of them are foreigners. Foreign students also receive free education and stipends as the Korean students.
He said that only one citizen of Uzbekistan graduated the UST in its history. He said that the UST wants to attract more gifted youth from Uzbekistan.
The President said that the entrants should have Bachelor degree, good English and be talented. He said that the entrants should submit a package of documents and undergo personal interview. According to Un Woo Lee, the UST accepts students twice a year – in spring and autumn.
During the education, the students participate in various researches and contests and the authors of the best works receive medals and remunerations, he said.
