Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), a principal organization, providing grant-aid assistance on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Korea, from 26 July to 2 August 2015 dispatched a team of experts for conducting the preliminary survey for development of the Feasibility study for construction of new international passenger terminal of Tashkent international airport (Tashkent-4).
Uzbekistan is located in the middle of the Central Asia and since ancient times has been the center of civilization of the Great Silk Road, with many historical monuments, which is why the number of tourists visiting the country is increasing every year. Nevertheless, the building of the international airport, which is the gateway to the state, is not spacious enough, hence there’s an urgent need to modernize the system of departures and arrivals. In this regard, during the official visit of HE President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov to the Republic of Korea, KOICA and the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan signed a Memorandum of Understanding. This document envisages the development of feasibility study for the construction of new international passenger terminal of Tashkent international airport (Tashkent-4) by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
The dispatched team consists of experts in such areas as air policy, airport management, construction, financials, etc., and the purpose of a dispatch is to investigate the local conditions, project schedule, the scope and objectives, required budget etc.
During the visit, the group plans to meet with NAC Uzbekistan Havo Yollari (Uzbekistan Airways), which is the main partner within the project, the Ministry of Economy, Ministry for Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade, State Committee for Architecture and Construction, NC "Uzbektourism", Khokimiyat of Tashkent city, the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan and other agencies. The team performed a preliminary survey of data and held discussions.
Moreover, on 1 August 2015 during the wrap-up meeting on results of the preliminary studies, the parties signed the Minutes of Meeting. The results have been reported to the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Rustam Azimov.
According to KOICA representatives, during the preliminary survey the experts witnessed the firm intention of the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan to implement this project. In compliance with the request of the Government of Uzbekistan the Korean side will fully prepare for soonest implementation of the project, develop a feasibility study, different from earlier designed ones, strengthen the necessary funding for the project and develop a master plan.
After the signing of Government arrangement for the project in September 2015, the selection of executive company for development of project feasibility study will take place, following which the official launch of feasibility study will commence early next year. Construction of a new passenger terminal will contribute to further development of cooperation between the two countries and to activities of joint ventures.
