Inter-parliamentary relations play key role in strengthening status of country

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Committee on International Affairs and Inter-parliamentary relations with the Committee for democratic institutions, NGOs and civil society of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis held a round-table discussion on “Improving inter-parliamentary ties of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan”.
MPs, representatives of ministries and departments, as well as mass media participated in the work of the event.
Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber and head of faction of Democratic Party of Uzbekistan Milliy Tiklanish Sarvar Otamuratov said that during independence years, foreign relations of Uzbekistan is expanding and mutual relations in all spheres are strengthening. He said that inter-parliamentary relations were sets with several states and inter-parliamentary groups of cooperation were formed. It is planned to launch such groups with parliaments of several countries.
At the meeting, the participants discussed issues of further expanding of cooperation with parliaments of foreign states, studying experience of parliaments of developed states in inter-parliamentary cooperation and increasing efficiency of inter-parliamentary relations.
It was underlined that inter-parliamentary relations play a key role in strengthening role and status of the country in international arena. It was noted that the parliament should take into account national interests in ratification of international agreements. So far, the parliament of Uzbekistan ratified 206 inter-parliamentary documents. MPs regularly study their implementation within the parliamentary control.
The participants noted that it is necessary to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation to study foreign experience in law-making and analysis of international legislation to efficiently use foreign experience. It was noted that number of visits of foreign parliamentarian delegations to Uzbekistan is growing.
Currently, there are diplomatic missions of Uzbekistan in 47 states, while 45 states have their embassies in Uzbekistan. Five international organizations opened their offices in Uzbekistan.
At the event, it was noted that it is necessary to develop mutual beneficial cooperation with foreign states, international organizations, expand activities of parliamentary cooperation groups. They shared their proposals and recommendations in this area.
