Uzbekistan starts to include children with special needs to general education system

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Within the project “Inclusive education for children with special needs in Uzbekistan”, financed by the European Union, some 800 children with special educational needs were included to kindergartens and general schools on 2 September.
During the summer, within the EU-funded project, over 250 experts, participating in process of assessment of children with special educational needs, underwent training.
The summer school on inclusive education was held on 17-28 August 2015 in Tashkent region. This training was part of preparing teachers to inclusion of 800 children with special educational needs to 15 experimental kindergartens and 15 experimental schools in five regions – Tashkent, Samarkand, Khorezm, Namangan and Surkhandarya regions.
The teachers of pilot kindergartens and school received knowledge on inclusive education, including work with children with and without special educational needs. Over 50 members of medical-pedagogical-psychological commission underwent training as well.
At the trainings, the sides agreed that the diagnosis of children will not be important factor to assess abilities of the children. Based on new knowledge and skills, the members of the commission directed hundreds of children to experimental schools and kindergartens.
